Episode of Marché de Noël d'Amiens

Tomo&Chouchou went to Amiens for hiking in December. At that time, Christmas market in Amiens [French: Marché de Noël d'Amiens] was held. Christmas market was held from City Hall [French: Hôtel de Ville d'Amiens] to Amiens railway station [French: Gare]. It was on pedestirian street. We could find many shops beside. We could also find food stands. Red chalets were cute. We could enjoy Christmas atmosphere. Amiens Christmas market was small. But it was pretty and good for families.

We could also enjoy christmas illumination at night. Especially, we really enjoyed illumination of Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Amiens [French: La cathédrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens]. It was projection mapping show. It was very colorful and beautiful. We strongly recommend to see it!

Episode of Christmas market in Stuttgart

Tomo&Chouchou went to Christmas market in Stuttgart in Germany !
Christmas market originated in Germany or Austria, so we could experience real Christmas market! Christmas market in German is "Weihnachtsmarkt".
Christmas market in Stuttgart was open from the morning to the evening.
At night, Christmas market was lit up and it had more Christmas atmosphere.

Speaking of Germany, everybody imagines Sausage, right? Of course, many kinds of sausages were sold at Christmas market. We ordered our favorite sausages, then they cook sausages and they made hot dogs for us. It was enjoyable to watch while their cooking.
The specialty of Christmas market is hot wine, isn't it?
Of course, hot wine was sold in Christmas market in Stuttgart.
It was very German way to serve the hot wine in the beer mug !
In other shops, we could find very cute chocolates and German confectioneries. Those had Christmas taste a lot.
We could also find a shop which sold fried potatoes.
There was a place for ice skating in Christmas market in Stuttgart. So kids can enjoy more, we think. It was rare to find ice skating in Christmas market, so it was very interesting. At night, ice skate ring was lit up. It was more beautiful !

Christmas market in Stuttgart was not so big. But Christmas market in Stuttgart had warm taste and Christmas atomosphere. Foods were good. Illumination was beautiful. We could enjoy Christmas market a lot.
Tomo&Chouchou strongly recommend Christmas market in Stuttgart.

Episode of La Défense Christmas Market

When we were looking for Christmas Market in Ile de France, we found a Christmas market at La Défense. La Défense is the center business area. La Défense is located in the suburbs of Paris. La Défense is the terminal station of Paris subway [Métro] Line 1. There are so many French famous companies's buildings in La Defense. There is also a big shopping mall in La Défense.
We went to La Défense Christmas Market [Marché de Noël de la Défense] in the afternoon. It was interesting to see Christmas market in the middle of business area. We felt the size of Christmas market was not so big but we could enjoy the variety of markets at La Defense Christmas Market.

La Défense Christmas Market sold the foods such as sandwich, fried potatoes, dried fruits etc., or other various things such as underwears, socks, scurfs or toys. When we saw the food shops, many foods attracted us a lot and gave us lots of appetite. It smelled good too. We became hungry quickly. Each shop sold the different kind of sandwiches. It was so hard to choose. We saw several shops several times then we chose a sandwich with melted cheese and sliced pork. It was also interesting to see such a big portion of cheese. It's also interesting how to melt cheese with the special method and materials.

Tomo&Chouchou love the tea. So we bought some bags of tea. Tea shop let us taste before buying, so we could buy the tea which we liked. Tea shop sold the special blended tea like Christmas tea. So we could buy special tea for Christmas. :-)
It was not so crowded as Paris, so it was comfortable to enjoy Christmas market at La Défense. We also enjoyed the view of Paris from the "Grande Arche". We could also look down the whole Christmas markets of La Defense from the Grande Arche. We liked La Défense Christmas Market!

Tomo&Chouchou's advices for La Défense Christmas market

1) At La Défense, there is not only Christmas market but also shopping mall which has lots of store inside. We can enjoy shopping at the both places. You might find something reasonable by Christmas sale.
2) At La Défense, there is the "Grande Arche" which is called "new Arc de Triomphe". Grande Arche is more modern than Arc de Triomphe. From Grande Arche, we can see the splendid view. So please go up the stairs, and enjoy the scenery of Paris.
It's nice to visit in the heart of Paris, but it's also good to see the suburbs of Paris. Please enjoy and discover the suburbs of Paris!

There were so many chalets on Avenue des Champs-Elysées during Marché de Noël. There were chalets both side of the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, so we walked and checked both side. We could find some Christmas decorations on the street.
Kids were taking a photo with Santa Claus [père Noël] in the big baloon. We wanted to take a photo too. But we hesitated.. For sure, it would be good memory for kids!
Champs-Elysées Christmas Market was open for a long period. We didn't need to worry about missing Marché de Noël Champs-Elysées. We could visit Champs-Élysées Christmas Market and other Christmas markets.
Champs-Elysées Christmas Market was exciting and energetic. We enjoyed walking through Champs-Élysées Christmas Market. It was very crowded but we enjoyed anyway special romantic Avenue des Champs-Élysées during Christmas.

Episode of Christmas market in Colmar

We could find many Alsatian specialties in Christmas market in Colmar [French: Marché de noël de Colmar]. Artisans sold them in the wooden houses. We could find many good things as a souvenir.
We found very pretty Alsatian paintings. We could understand how Alsatian people lived in the past through the painting. Alsatian costumes were cute too. We can find such painting only in Alsace. It could be a precious souvenir.
Alsatian potteries are also very famous! Alsatian potteries are most appropriate to prepare Alsatian specialties such as Choucroute or Kougelhopf. Tomo&Chouchou bought Alsatian pottery in Alsace.
The yellow candle sculptures of various shapes were so wonderful. It's even nice to put as a Christmas decoration.
Of course, we could find foods in Christmas market too. Cheese and French dried sausage "saucisson" were sold in the market.
Of course, alcoholic drink was sold too. Tomo&Chouchou were surprised to see eggnog (tamagozake in Japanese) in France! Because we thought Tamagozake existed only in Japan. It was wrong! Old people think in the same way probably. French eggnog is egg-milk mixed with fruits liqueurs such as raspberry, blueberry, European pear, cherry, or French brandy "Cognac". There were many varieties and everything looked tasty!
Instead of eggnog, we drank Hot wine in Christmas market. We always tasted hot wine in each Christmas market. It's not same taste all the time. So it's interesting to discover the difference of the taste. :)

Episode of Chrismas Market in Colmar

Tomo&Chouchou present Christmas market in Colmar [Marché de Noël de Colmar] in Alsace in France !
Colmar is located about 70 km south of Strasbourg. Colmar was not so damaged during the war, so still now a row of houses of Middle Ages remains in Colmar. Christmas market in Colmar is not so big as Christmas market in Strasbourg, but Marché de Noël de Colmar is popular and famous especially amoung local people.
Colmar Christmas market was cozy and very cute as fairy-tale.
So Tomo&Chouchou strongly recommend Colmar Christmas market!

When we approached to the Christmas market area in Colmar, we found several placards. Placards kindly told us which way to go in Christmas market in Colmar. So it was easy to find Christmas market place. Moreover, there was a map which told where Christmas market was, or highlights of Christmas market. It was very kind for tourists. Mainly, Christmas market took place around the Old Town. It was easy to walk and easy to look around !
The area around Place de l'ancienne douane had many Christmas decorations. Tomo&Chouchou found it was the prettiest place of Christmas market in Colmar. It was very like a fairy-tale! Colmar was like a toy box! We felt we were in a dream.
While walking around Colmar, we could also enjoy very cute Alsatian houses.
St. Martin church (Cathédrale Saint-Martin) is located in the center of the city.
St. Martin church is Gothic church with coloured tile roof. It was very beautiful.
Everything was pretty in Colmar. The size of Christmas market was not so big as Strasbourg but it was very organized beautifully. More than anything, it was very fantastic, cute, pretty and warm-taste. Christmas market in Colmar is one of our favorite Christmas markets.

Christmas market in Strasbourg, Christkindelsmärik, is very big Christmas market. Christmas market is held in the center of the city. Center-ville is around Cathédrale Notre-Dame. This Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg (Strasbourg Cathedral) is famous for the largest astronomical clock in the world.

Episode of Strasbourg Christmas market (2)

We went to the center of Strasbourg Christmas market. We found the famous Strasbourg Cathedral. It was very big. Cathédrale Notre-Dame-de-Strasbourg was simply awesome. The cathedral was open at night during Christmas market period. So we entered inside the cathedral. We could see the largest astronomical clock in the world. It was a little bit crowded inside the cathedral but it was ok.
The Strasbourg Cathedral was lit up at night. It was more beautiful for us.
Around the Cathedral, there were many small wooden houses. There were full of Christmas decorations in Strasbourg during Christmas market period, so just walking around the city of Strasbourg made us enjoy and feel Christmas! We could see many beautiful illuminated decorations everywhere on the street. We found illuminations of angels somewhere on the street. They were very cute. We liked them.
While we were walking, we found Santa Clause in a coach. It was interesting to see such a modern Santa Clause! Santa Clause was not on the sleigh pulled by the reindeer. He was with a horse. Santa Clause was in a coach pulled by the horse. :-)
The year when Tomo&Chouchou went to Strasbourg Christmas market, Russian Christmas was held as a special event. There was a wooden house which sold Russian dolls. There was a Russian church too. It was the church which had cute crystals of snow and warmness of woods. Russian architecture made us feel that we were in Russia!  We heard that there were special events every year. We were satisfied with Russian Christmas event.
