Kougelhopf (Kouglof) is Alsatian cake which is baked in a special circular pottery with a central tube.

so Alsace took over German culture and cuisine.
We could find several specialties in Strasbourg Christmas market: Christkindelsmärik.
These are Alsatian pastries [pâtisseries] have lots of varieties!
In Alsace, it's a tradition to prepare lots of cookies for Christmas.
Each family prepares cookies for Christmas period. Many kinds of cookies were sold in Strasbourg Christmas market. It was the good opportunity to know the variety of cookies.
We could see some cooks making Gugelhupf (Kouglof) in Strasbourg Christmas market. It was very interesting to see.
Pretzel (Brezel in German) is also famous Alsatian specialty! It's German specialty. As Alsace took German culture and cuisine, it's also popular in Alsace.
Pain d’épices (spice-bread/gingerbread) was also sold in Strasbourg Christmas market. Pain d'épices can conserve for a long time, so we can buy it as a souvenir,
then we can eat it after the new year starts. We bought some for Christmas & new year. There were also some varieties; simple pain d'épices or pain d'épices with fruits.
We drank the speciality of Christmas market; Hot wine [vin chaud]. This is don't-miss-it-drink in Christmas market! It become warm and we can feel Christmas atomosphere more. There is non-alcohol hot wine for children and for people who cannot drink alcohol. Everyone can enjoy hot wine!
We also enjoyed Christmas dinner course at the restaurant. It was very special moment.
We could enjoy many kinds of foods in Strasbourg Christmas market. Alsatian cute sweets made us feel we were in the fairyland. We could really feel Christmas.

Choucroute: sauerkraut (fermented cabbages) & porc boiled with white wine,
Tarte Flambée: very thin pizza with fromage blanc, fresh cream, onion & bacon.
You can also drink Gewurztraminer; Alsatian wine, or
Kronenbourg; Alsatian beer which is known as 1664 label. Please try some of them!
