Episode of Sainte-Chapelle [Holy Chapel]
The Sainte-Chapelle [Holy Chapel] is our most favorite church in Paris. The Sainte-Chapelle is located in Île de la Cité where Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris is also located.
It's said that the Sainte-Chapelle is one of the highest achievements of Gothic architecture. The Sainte-Chapelle is designated as the UNESCO World Heritage site.
There are two floors in the Sainte-Chapelle. First, you will enter the first floor/lower chapel. The lower chapel had a bit dark atmosphere. However the ceilling was decorated with the gold color and the chapel was rich and spiritual.
There was a souvenir shop of the Sainte-Chapelle on the first floor.
There are narrow stairs to go up to the second floor on the left side of the lower chapel. As soon as you arrive at the second floor, you can see the magnificent stained glass in front of you. The stained glasses are very large but they are so delicate, fine and colorful.
When Tomo & Chouchou went to the Sainte-Chapelle, one part of the stained glasses were under restoration. Even though, we could be satisfied to see the left gorgeous stained glass.
There are golden wall painting and a big rose window near the entrance of the second floor. The golden wall painting were very shining and splendid.
There was an altar at the back of the second floor/upper chapel. The gold was used again for the altar and the flying angels are decorated.
We tend to look up for the stained glass but the floor was also pretty. Kind of coats of arm were drawn on the stone of the floor.
It costs to enter the Sainte-Chapelle so we hesitated to go there. However it's quite worth to pay for such a wonderful stained glass. We really loved Sainte-Chapelle.
