Episode of World Heritage Walking in Macau
There are 30 UNESCO World Heritage spots in Macau Peninsula. It is possible to visit all spots on foot in a day. It's about 2 km.
Tomo&Chouchou like world heritage. Actually it was the main reason to visit Macau this time. We wanted to see the colonial remaining and learn history.
At first, we decided to go to tourist information in the Senado Square. We asked where the bus stop was just in case. Then we started to walk from the Senado square.
When Tomo&Chouchou went to Macau, it was the end of Chinese New Year. There seemed to be the decoration of Chinese New Year in the Senado Square. They were removing the decorations in the morning. The pedestrian street from the Senado square to St. Dominic's square was still decorated in the morning. Tomo&Chouchou really expected to see the Senado square. We had kind of Portuguese image before coming. Therefore it was a little bit different atmosphere that we expected because of Chinese decoration. Anyway it was special Senado square.
There was Leal Senado (Royal Senate or Municipal Affairs Bureau) in front of the Senado Square. Tomo&Chouchou visited there just before closing at night the day before. There were Chinese New Year's decorations inside and outside of Leal Senado. It had Chinese atmosphere a lot. In the morning, they were removing the decorations so it looked different. We could see the European style of building.
We went to Kuan Tai Temple (Sam Kai Vui Kun) near Senado Square. It was the small temple. It looked the old temple. The appearance of the temple was unique. It was the first time for us to see such a temple. Once we entered the temple, we were suprised to see it. There were many golden decorations. We could understand how great the Lord Guan was. Kuwan Tai is worshiped as the god of business. So Tomo&Chouchou prayed for the success in business.
We walked the main avenue "Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro". There were Chinese style of buildings and Portuguese style of buildings. It was mixed. The buildings looked mostly old. Then we walked up the street called Calçada do Tronco Velho. This street looked much older. It also looked a little bit dark. Less people were walking. We were surprised and learned the big difference between sightseeing area and residencial area.
