Gaucho [Gaúcho] & Brazilian specialty (Churrasco, Chimarrão, Cachaça)

Southern Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul

Brazilian BBQ "Churrasco" is very famous.
It's said that Churrasco is originated in southern Brazil.

Chimarrão is mate/maté tea. It's a traditional South American drink.

Gaúcho is South American cowboy. Gaúcho culture remains in Rio Grande do Sul.

Cachaça is a distilled alcohol spirit made from sugarcane juice.

Episode of Rio Grande do Sul

Tomo & Chouchou has Brazilian friends who live in Brazil. Some of them live in Rio Grande do Sul. So they took us to some restaurants and bars there.

Speaking of Brazil, Brazilian BBQ [Churrasco] is very famous. Of course, our Brazilian friends took us two Churrasco restaurants [=Churrascaria] in Porto Alegre. One of the restaurants was called "Churrascaria Galpão Crioulo". We could see Gaúcho dance show while eating Churrasco.
The restaurant offers the buffet, so we can eat lots of vegetables as much as we can. The waiters bring grilled meat with skewer to the table and they slice meats in front of us. There is a card on the table for each person. When you become full, you show red-color side of the card. It means "I am full. No more meats, thanks."
Then the waiters stop serving meats to you.

FYI, we ate Churrasco in Sao Paulo and Porte Alegre. We felt Churrasco in Porte Alegre was saltier than Churrasco in Sao Paulo. Taste was different according to the region.

Tomo & Chouchou were very lucky. Some friends of our Brazilian friends are Gaúcho (=Cowboys). Our Brazilian friends invited them to their house for us. They came with traditional Gaúcho costumes and sang Gaúcho songs with playing the guitar. They also taught us how to drink mate/maté [chimarrão] with special traditional calabash gourd in Gaúcho way. Gaúcho way of drinking mate is to drink with one same metal straw and pass to the next person. We felt that such way of drinking mate tea actually made people close very quickly.
Tomo & Chouchou were so satisfied to experience Gaúcho (Cowboy) culture of Rio Grande do Sul.

We also went to Cachaçaria which is a bar specializing Cachaça or Pinga.
Cocktail made with cachaça [pinga] and maracujá (=passion fruit) was very delicious! Of course, Caipirinha which is a cocktail made with cachaça, lime and sugar was also excellent. We really enjoyed real cachaça [pinga] in Brazil ♪
