Episode of Beaune

Tomo & Chouchou went to Beaune. Beaune is the famous city for Bourgogne wine. We went to Beaune to see the polychrome roof and Flemish architecture. We also went to see the biggest wine festival in Bourgogne called "Les Trois Glorieuses".

First, we found the gate similar to the Arc de Triomphe to go to the center of Beaune. After passing this gate called "Porte St-Nicolas" then following the Lorraine street [Rue de Lorraine], we found the city hall [Hôtel de ville].
Around the city hall, two marching bands were playing music♪.
Then, we walked to Place Fleury where was the main place of the event. There were many market stands on the Lorraine street [Rue de Lorraine]. When we approached the main place of the wine festival, there were so many people. Around the main place of wine festival, we could buy some specialty of Bourgogne. We were hungry so we bought sandwiches at the food stand.
When we arrived at Hospices de Beaune [Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune] which is the main place of wine festival, there were incredible number of people. It was too crowded. So we approached and checked why it was so crowded. It was because French actors were in the Hôtel-Dieu. So people were waiting to see them at the exit (=entrance). We were not allowed to enter to Hôtel-Dieu while actors were inside the Hôtel-Dieu. So we decided to go to backstreet of Hôtel-Dieu.
We found a statue looks like a rhinoceros in the backyard of Hôtel-Dieu. Also we could see the glazed-tile roof, which is the landmark of Beaune.
Finally we could enter to Hospices de Beaune. We could see the pretty glazed-tile roof colored by red, brown, yellow and green. We could see Flemish architecture, which we often saw the photos, in the courtyard of the Hôtel-Dieu.
We can see the hospital rooms, the dispensary and the chapel which are kept since 15th century inside the hospital ward. The Beaune Altarpiece "The Last Judgement"which is drawn Jesus Christ was splendid. There were also tapestries in the Hospices de Beaune.
All the things in the Hôtel-Dieu were very worth to see.

During the "Les Trois Glorieuses" wine festival, temporary degustation place are built. We can enjoy the Bourgogne wine and the escargots.
We bought some Burgundian wines as our souvenir.
